Convert understairs to toilet...any idea of cost?

Am thinking of putting a toilet and sink in understairs space.Has anyone done this and what did it cost?

Only problem is I think I would need to steal a small amount of space from kitchen...maybe 2 foot max so undertairs can accomadate full height door.

Kitchen/diner is approx 17.5sq metres so I think it would not take too much away from the kitchen space...??

The wall that needs to be removed is solid (not sure if supporting wall...but its only 80cm wide...if that makes a difference)

I assume that the removal of the existing wall will add significanly to the price if it is indeed a supporting wall.

Anyone have an idea of cost that mite be involved. Trying to assertain if the cost mite be too high for it to be worth the extra toilet.House has only one bathroom...and no room for on suite. So I think this may be the only option.

Anyone know about glass blocks? Are they see thru?or just a haze?Was thinking I could rebuild the new wall from kitchen to toilet with glass bricks..from counter top level up...or portion of...as new toilet would have no window. Good or bad idea??

We have a downstairs W/C as you describe. Not sure about the costs involved in creating one from scratch but some abservations would be that it is not often used and indeed we had convereted it to house the washing machine and tumble dryer at one stage as we thought that would be a more appropriate use of the space. We did convert back when we started to toilet train the little guy and it proved very handy on more than one occassion. Will the door be opening out directly to the kitchen? If so you may find you don't use it as ofer as you would think. I wouldn't go for Glass bricks to a loo either maybe suitable for an ensuite off you bedroom but I wouldn't consider the view from the kitchen (even if blurred) appropriate

Thanks The Block. The door will be opening off the hallway..had thought about opening off kitchen but agree with you that it would be used less often with that set up!
My thoughts are that the best use of the space would be a 2nd toilet...but only if the space is extended to proper door height as no one would be likely to use it if it is so small that you have to back in and crouch down!
If the cost of altering the wall and door would prove too much...then laundry is the next best option for me.
