Continuous Double vs Single White line on the road

A single white line also means you cannot park on side of that road.I learned this the hard way in one of our cities.I parked behind in front of row of cars and before double yellow lines. Was surprised to get ticket but seems I was wrong.I offered to drop in a can of yellow paint to Council so they could extend double yellows to run parallel with start of single white line.Thought it was a sly one, most would watch for double yellows, but I learned the lesson.

Single and double yellow lines are provided to regulate parking. They can restrict parking for various reasons but not exclusively for road safety reasons. Parking parallel to continuous white lines is dangerous parking as it forces traffic to cross the white line. It is therefore a more serious parking violation.
