Well done to the Tipperary Senior Hurling team on their All Ireland victory over Kilkenny.
A lot has been made by some brainless commentators of the red card issued to Richie Hogan spoiling the game as a spectacle and ruining it as a competitive match.
Could I remind Henry Shefflin & Co that the purpose of the new emphasis on issuing immediate red cards for head-high challenges is to protect players from serious injuries? Richie Hogan's intent was clear from the moment he set off and, had the Tipp player not pulled his head back at the last second, Hogan's full body weight and not just his elbow would have made contact with the opposition player's head. A disgraceful piece of conduct and the straight red fully justified.
