I was litstening to a representitive of askaboutmoney on The Last word yesterday evening (think his name was Brendan). Matt had asked him whether you are entitled to the public pension if you have a private pension. Brendan went on to explain you can if you are a normal PAYE and was about to elaborate with a but if you are a company director....before being interrupted by Matt. Does anybody know what the if you are a company director bit is? I am an IT contractor setup as a ltd company (not by chioce I was told I couldn't have the job unless I setup as a ltd company). The negatives of this kind of setup are just one after the other, now I'm worried it might feck up my pension.

That was indeed Brendan Burgess, founder of this great website on The Last Word yesterday evening.

The State Contributory Pension is payable if you have enough suitable PRSI contributions made by the time you retire, regardless of what other private pension arrangements you have.
