Hi All,
Apologies if posted in wrong section.

I'm a PAYE earner but complete Form 11 each year as have a rental property which typically results in making payment for tax due. In my ignorance/stupidity when making my return for the last 4 years i have not included that i have made lump sum AVC each of these years. In total over the 4 years around €40K ...
My question(s) are
1) What is best way to make claim for any tax back? I have just sent enquiry to Revenue in it. No need to engage with private tax back companies? Are revenue typically reasonable with handling my omission
2) If im due tax back ( i should be right?) - would that end up in a cheque/ lodgment in my account or just credit against future tax liabilities.

Thanks

You can amend your previous 4 years form 11.
This is allowed and won't cause any problems.
Just reopen each form 11 and amend them to include your pension contributions.

There won't be any issues with Revenue as these are all overpayments of income tax.

If you have supplied your bank account details to revenue, you will get a tax refund directly into your bank account.

If you made the AVCs within the tax year being claimed for you should be fine. What you can't do retrospectively is elect to backdate payments to the previous tax year, beyond 31st October of the following tax year.

But, worst case, if you're still in same employment, you can carry historical AVCs forward for tax relief in current tax year.
