We were in Madrid last weekend from Friday to Monday, great value Aer lingus deal we booked last September, they were two hundred cheaper than Ryanair ( must be a one off )
Madrid is huge,too big in my opinion for a short break unless you have a fixed itinerary , beautiful dry climate,17 degrees but cool at night, it's a very grand city,if perhaps a little lacking in spark ( at least in winter) though and very walkable as flat , I would say prices are pretty reasonable for a major capital ( taxis are so cheap)but food quality not as good as any Italian location and coffee not a patch on Italy unless you know exactly where to go
We preferred both London,Lisbon and Edinburgh for city breaks which are the only places we have taken in during winter months in the past
