CGT Return if no chargeable gain?

My wife and I sold a some shares in 2018. When our annual exemption is taken into account there is no chargeable gain, so just wondering if we still need to file a CGT return as we did actually dispose of an asset.

Thanks in advance

I am selling a strip of land to my neighbour for 10K. I have been advised that no CGT is due as the sale would not reduce the value of my property. The CG1 return does not seem to cater for this scenario. Any advice on how I inform Revenue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have always understood that even where there is no tax liability there may be obligations in certain circumstances to make a return even if only to receive a "nil" assessment.

I could think of nothing more exasperating than to have no tax liability but to be pinged for failing to make the return.
