Hi, im afraid you'll have to provide a bit more information to get proper advice - size of development in square metres, how many floors, size of garden left over, what town/city council area you are in etc, - this will help determine whether you should have got planning permission originally. If the extension would not have satisfied the conditions for a planning exemption, then get an engineer/architect/building surveyor to prepare and submit an application for retention. If this is granted then the engineer will issue a cert of compliance with planning, if it was built in line with regulations at the time they also can issue an opinion of compliance with building regulations
