Censorship on AAM

In relation to the g string topic (Piggy you are not going to like me here) I could see the funny side of what Piggy was trying to get at, but felt the comments about the "babe" on the train were way too personal and if I am perfectly honest blatently sexist and not acceptable. I showed the thread to four other girls at work and all four felt similar. (By the way I am not insinuating Piggy is in any way resonsible for any of the other sinister topics which have been appearing, Piggy I just want to make that clear) I am just commenting on that one topic.

Just for the record, and not to re-start this debate, you make a very valid point in relation to the personal nature of my remarks. Perhaps I could have given that more thought before posting. I thought the description was vague enough that nobody might say "Hey that's me"...but I take your point on board.
For what it's worth, I'm not sexist. You'll just have to take my word for that.
Aside: In my experience, very often the guys who will tell you they're not sexist end up being very sexist when push comes to shove (when they're presented with real life situations in relation to say women in their workplace) and the guys who make the odd sexist joke (ie blonde jokes) can actually be quite enlightened. If we're being pc here though, then I guess there's no excuse for un-pc jokes at all.
I don't see anything wrong with (say) blonde jokes in the same way that I don't see anything wrong with the jokes that some of my girl friends send me about dumb guys.
Sexist remarks are very subjective. What you would find sexist or not acceptable another woman wouldn't find sexist. I do see your point though so just wanted to acknowledge that.

I suppose it's all meaningless now anyway as this is all history. I just wanted to put the record straight.

My point was that it's easy to say "I'm not sexist". Saying it without showing that you have some appreciation for what it really means would be worthless.

No confusion. Yes, that's correct. I am claiming to be non sexist. I also stand by my remarks that jokes can just be jokes (slightly sexist or otherwise) and do not make the man (or woman) sexist when it comes to real life situations despite your insinuations to the contrary.

I realise that you had a problem with the post 'regular contributor'. You made that clear enough the other day. Other people didn't. AFAIK two of those posters were female who were not offended. In fact they found it quite humourous. It was harmless fun. That's all.

If a stand up comedian makes remarks about people he meets or sees is that somehow wrong too? He makes those remarks public too.

I really don't want to debate this any further with you. I was only trying to make a point strictly in relation to Amanda's posting.

The fact that SOME female readers gave you the thumbs up validates your defence against charges of sexism or chauvinism? So you presumably reckon that female readers can't be sexist or chauvinistic? Which is, de facto, a sexist or chauvinistic point of view. You're a gas man (?) piggy. :lol

No it doesn't. It merely points out that some people don't find it sexist. A woman has far more right to find a joke (of that nature) sexist or offensive IMO. That's why I merely pointed out some female posters found it humourous.

I already stated that what can be considered sexist is subjective.

This is going nowhere. You cannot see the humour in the joke. I accept that.

I personally thought the "joke" was juvenile to say the least. I can't say I was offended by it but I wondered at the time how on earth you thought it worthwhile to post your musings on AAM, at least outside the Craic forum. Apart from that it didn't bother me in the slightest but at this stage I cant really understand why you cant accept that your post might indeed have been inappropriate for AAM.

Contrary to your belief, I do understand your point about women being sexist themselves sometimes, I just don't particularly agree with it in this instance.

I never found the confessions of a window cleaner type films particularly funny myself. I wonder why you keep battering away at this though? Some people found it funny. Some people didn't.

Actually, my last point was about how your own comments purporting to show how non sexist/chauvinistic you are are, ironically, proving the opposite.

Perhaps you didn't read my earlier comments in this post. Page one, right after Brendan's last post. I fully accept that Brendan deleted it. I've already stated that and that I had/have no problem with it.

I also understand that you don't get it Tommy, in the same way that I understand that some posters had no problem with it being there and joined in in the spirit of light entertainment.
As for it being juvenile, that was part of the humour. It wasn't meant to be intellectual.

I accept that Brendan doesn't want "blather" on Letting Off Steam. Obviously the people who joined in the discussion (and myself) would not feel the same way, or else they wouldn't have posted. I'm not saying it should be full of "blather" either...just that I didn't see the harm in posting it.

It's a dead in the water debate as far as I'm concerned. If it's deemed inappropriate for the forum then it's deemed inappropriate. Full stop. Perhaps I could have put it in 'The Craic'. I didn't.

I'm not arguing with the regular contributor that it should have been allowed stay.

a) offensive, or perhaps,
b) unoffensive


I also thought it was

a) humorous, or possibly,
b) unhumurous


I thought the story should have been either

a) left in the dontaskaboutmoney section, or maybe,
b) moved to the craic section, or perhaps,
c) removed altogether

So, let that be the final word on it as this debate is going nowhere.
