Hi,

My Mam has been taking care of her Mam for the past 15 years however was unaware she was entitled to carers allowance. She is now going to apply for it but was just wondering can see also claim for back years ?

Thanks

I don't know the answer (sorry!) but, if she can claim back, it'll be for this year and 4 prior years max. I'm not sure about carers' allowance though as it's an actual payment isn't it? It's not a relief (like medical). One of you should call Revenue or Social Welfare to see - I'm sure they'll know the answer right off the top of their heads.

I'm afraid not, Daved... I get Half-Rate Carers for looking after my mum...

You can only get the allowance from the date of your claim... Here's the info on Carers...

Here's the info on Carers... So get in there quickly....

Oh and if your mum gets Carers, she'll automatically be entitled to the €1,700 Respite Care Grant on the first Thursday in June... She may still get it, but if she's not on Carers, she'll have to make a seperate application for it... Here's the info on Respite Care Grant...

Hope this helps... Please wish your mum the very best of luck with it from me.....
