Car to mechanic before or after NCT

The only proof that I look for is the Pass Cert .
Even before the off license is open ;)

Car has just failed NCT again for the same issue with rear brake imbalance. Bit annoyed as I had paid my mechanic €350 to "fix" the issues after the first failed NCT. Is the problem perhaps that NCT centres are using testing conditions that a mechanic is unable to replicate?

Take it to a different centre for a retest. I posted before about an imbalance fail for front shocks. The readout numbers given by the Nct centre had no meaning and were clearly wrong/impossible to exist but they would not listen. Passed perfectly on retest with no adjustments or work done.

You'd need one of the better equipped garages with the right equipment to replicate their test, effectively a rolling road which measures the braking force applied to each wheel.

Did you get a full readout of the front brakes also ?
If these are similar to your first NCT readout the brake test equipment is probably calibrated okay.

Ask the mechanic to check the brakes again.
Did he bleed both sides ?
He probably doesn't have the test equipment, but he should be able to get the brakes tested somewhere for you.
