Can anyone recommend a good vacuum cleaner?

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good Cylinder Vacuum cleaner that does not cost too much? I have a Vax bagless vacuum that I bought about 6 months ago but I find the suction very poor. I have mostly timber floors in my house with carpet on stairs and tiles in kitchen & bathrooms.

Last year in the sales in Power City I picked up a Dyson, now I know it was a little more expensive than other vacuum cleaners but its brilliant, well worth the extra cash.

(no connection to Dyson or P.C.)

I've had a Miele for the last 10 years. I find it an excellent cleaner and is quieter than most others.
 
Miele, especially the cat and dog if you have pets in the house. Adjustable power settings and extremely durable.
 
The Miele - and they're not even that expensive much to my pleasant surprise
 
Miele and steer well clear of those dreadfull Dysons (full of clips and fiddly bits and very poor suction performance)
 
Agree with avoiding dyson, had one and it was terrible, always falling to bits, although the suction was very good it would just torment you to use it because bits were always falling off.
 
Miele -- my missus is a cleaning addict and has had all makes of vacuum cleaners - from the American Kirby to Dyson, Nilfisk, Bosch etc etc. The Miele is far better than any other make.
 
Sorry to be predictable, but I am another member of the Miele fan club.

I dont have one with a turbo head, but I know a few people who say that this
is an excellent addition.
 
Have a Dyson, and just bought a Miele.
Love the Miele. Can't understahype is about the Dyson..
 
Cant believe the bad press on the Dyson. I have had one for many years and I think its brilliant. Once you clean the filter every 6 months its perfect. Sturdy little fella too.
 
Miele as well. I often hoovered when it when was full and didn't notice any loss of suction. Miele was very highly rated in Which! as well.
 
I vote Miele too - really pleased with it. BIL has a Dyson, and it's useless! I used it when it was brand new and it did a very poor job. A few years on, it's falling apart. Don't get me started on the grossness of emptying it - I'm still traumatised
 
Nilfish GM90 is my lifesaver. Expensive to buy but I have it 18 years and it still "sucks" as good as new. Daughter has same one for 15 years. Wouldn't consider anything else

Got a Nilfisk as a wedding present & lasted 21 yrs. Replaced with a Bosch bagless which was a total disaster. After less than 12 months got...another Nilfisk, the "Nilfisk Family". More expensive I know but if it lasts another 21 years then it'll do fine. ( the old Nilfisk found a second life with a neighbour who managed to salvage some parts to replcace some on their similar one & on it goes )
 
Another recommendation for Miiele. When we bought ours got the shop to throw in the timber floors head along with the traditional one and this is a great combo. THe timber floors head is great for timber and tiles.
