Calls grow for Mary Lou McDonald to make Dáil statement about former party press officer

And to make sure they keep their name in the spotlight they are now loudly complaining about Patrick Kielty's rather funny satirical skit last Friday.

That could run for a couple of days.

My guess is they are thinking RTE are not held in great esteem and trying to harness that. However, that has subsided and also Patrick Kielty is very well liked, so another mis-step.

You'd think they hadn't got any press officers to manage these things.

Oh wait, they don't :D

"It’s full of deception, betrayal, where everybody keeps changing their stories. All we have to do is work out who is telling the truth,” Kielty said, before photographs of former Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley who quit the party last week and party leader Mary Lou McDonald came up on screen.

“I think that’s the first two contestants there,” Kielty said.

“Sinn Féin traitors, the show we all want to see,” he added to a mix of boos, cheers and laughter from the audience.

This was the opening monologue from Patrick kielty on friday night, it was very funny. on the ball and relevant. SF aren't happy and are supposedly taking a case against RTE over it. They really are a big bunch of laughs aren't they? they really need to grow up

Plus it is now on the radar of people who hadnt even seen the Late Late

In fairness to Paddy as a stand-up, he was always used to the give and take in the cut-and-thrust of comedy and politics. Turbidity was never there. Still ain't. Paddy's jokes don't always work, but that's OK, mine don't always work either. One likes Paddy, not so sure about his predecessor on the Late Late.

If we can ignore their previous history of covering up child abuse and their support for people who have murdered children, and I know that's a lot to ignore, I'm not seeing what exactly they did wrong with how they handled the resignation of Niall Ó Donnghaile.

I agree with you.

If someone is suffering from mental illness then you do not want to exacerbate it.

They got rid of him. They thanked him for his work. They wished him well.

It was a no win situation for them.

Completely different from giving a reference to a new employer to help the other guy get a job with the British Heart Foundation.

Now it turns out that the child he was sending texts to was 16 at the time, below the age of consent. It seems Mary Lou was aware of that when she incorrectly stated that the child was 17 at the time. She's since corrected the Dáil record.

I wonder if a Priest was sending inappropriate texts to a child and another adult and the Cardinal removed him from his parish and sent him off somewhere to "give him the space to focus on his health and wellbeing" (his words) then what would the reaction be. ? Imagine the Cardinal turning up at Sunday mass and thanking the Priest for his work and wishing him well.

Imagine the reaction if that got out a few months later?

Correct it was a no-win situation for Sinn Fein but they did everything wrong. They should have reported it immediately to the Gardai (if the child was in the South) or the PSNI (if the child was in the North) and they should have expelled the senator from the party. Instead, just like the Cardinals, they tried to shove it under the carpet.

Well if it was the first time anything like that ever happened then they might get the benefit of the doubt. It's not like Sinn Fein have ever covered up child sexual abuse before... oh wait...

All of this has to raise serious questions of SF's vetting of candidates before an election. I know nothing is certain but "resigning from the party" is rapidly becoming the new norm for SF

SF again with more allegations of sinister messaging of children.
It's a step up from the sinister kneecapping of children, which in turn is a step up from the sinister shooting and blowing up of children. They're on a journey...
