Buying to rent

Hi,

Where would be a good place for buying to rent around Dublin? Preferably Northside. Is it relatively easy to rent or could you be waiting a while to find lodgers?

Thanks
R

there was a radio programme last week, where one of the guests suggested that any property in the €3/5M bracket is good value for investment. This based on the fact that divorce is on the rise and none of the spouses want to downsize, so a second house must be bought!

I heard this blase comment and was amazed. It takes no account of the fact that two people buying 2 houses do not have the same purchasing power as 2 people buying 1 house.

Redbhoy for what it is worth try ringing as many letting agents with exposure to the area. Say you want to invest in property in north side and to use their services. Ask them where they recommend and which area lets quickest? Compared to estate agents they have no vested interest in trying to push something on you that could be a turkey.

Apart from the fact that it sounds implausible that divorce is having a significant impact on the housing market (if anybody has any evidence to support this supposition then I'd be interested in seeing it), why on earth would anybody assume that divorcees are necessarily going to be looking for million € homes?

hi,

www.daft.ie do a quarterly report which gives good detail on the rental sector in Ireland.
shows average rents, vacancy times etc. as well as an overview.
