Buying geothermal heat pump abroad?

Hi,

I had planned to buy my geothermal heat pump here in ireland but have just came across the same model/make in poland for 7K less exactly from the main dealer in poland.
Can anyone tell me is there any reason why i shouldn't buy from poland (excluding the transportation issue)? Would it be possible to ask the supplier to get the model in that would be compatable with irish electricity?

I just can't understand how there could be such a difference in price?

Any advice from people who have bought things like this over from europe?

i bought a thermia hp from poland, from the thermia agent in poland rather than their agent in ireland,it is a thermia diplomat tws 10 and cost 4200 euro approx +irish vat at 21% +got it delivered to my door for another 500, i was approved for the sei grant and have received this which covered the cost of the pump. the pump came from sweden to poland to ireland and was alot cheaper than buying it here

Is it an air source or ground source HP? Just wondering how you went about installing it. Particularly if GSHP.

SAS..you can use any of the SEI list registered installers toqualify for the grant

The fisherman: How can you pay the irish vat rate as if you purchase in poland wouln't you be liable for there vat rate and once bought in the EU can be brought over with out any tax obligations..is this correct?

.i had to pay irish vat because i am registered for vat(blocklayer) and when i was e-mailing my details to poland my vat no.was included by mistake,so the polish agent did not charge me vat, then, to get the sei grant i had to show that i paid vat,21% in ireland or 22% in poland, .after alot of calls to revenue i had to invoice myself for 21% and pay irish revenue. the pump is a ground sourced heatpump.

hi, the fisherman,
that sounds like a good idea....
do you have a contact for poland,
also that price is for the unit itself,
what do you recon would be the additional costs?

Hi Fisherman,
did you use one of the approved SEI installers to install and commission the Heat pump ??

did you import the collector loops also, as I hear that there is also a decent mark up on this also?

look up thermia.com and get polish agent (nordica.com.pl.) the extra costs are , pipes for garden-500, antifreeze to put in pipes 300 euro.someone to commision pump for grant 150 euro. these are the sevices which the hp suppliers in ireland will do for you at inflated irish prices-thermia agents quoted me 11500 for above services and hp so buying in poland was a no-brainer saving at least4500 . you own plumber can do the connections etc, believe me but there is no degree needed, il laid the pipes for ufh downstairs myself-pipe cost 800 approx and manifold cost maybe 400?( need to checkthat ) there are other cost like digger to dig trench for collector pipes etc.

thefisherman, did you go vertical or horizontal? how are you finding the thermia system?

i went for pipe buried in field which you can buy at local creamery orplumbing store, the system is up and running for a few months but moved in only 10 days and still work to do like painting and puting down a wooden floor, tiles elsewhere are lovely and warm, i put rads upstairs but dont use them much as house is very warm even without curtains in most windows but i did put in alot of insulation,150mm under floor, quinnlite inner leaf with 60mm kingspan in cavity and standard block outer leaf, and 250mm insulation in attic-you can feel the temp difference between attic and upper floor as you go up and down the stira.insulation is very important no matter what heat source you use

Hi thefisherman,
What kind of rads did you use ? I was going to use Solo radiators but, I'm getting mixed opinions on them.
Thanks

i am using ordinary rads but to be quite honest i hardly ever use them as the house is warm enough with the ground floor ufh swithed on.
My advice is ,run pipes for rads upstairs, cap them and wait and see how warm the house is before making up your mind-could save some money that way.
i think myself that It does not matter how good a heating system a person has if all the heat is leaking out of the house through the walls, windows attic etc so insulate as much as possible-and then insulate some more!

Thanks for that, fisherman.
At the moment I'm st up for the rads, I might take up your suggestion, and see how I get on.

fisherman,

thanks for the great info. Did you install hollow-core between ground and first floor? I am asking as I am building a 2 storey myself this year and hoping to use geothermal also. I am a bit concerned with hollow-core that there would not be much heat transfer.

Are you also running the rads off the geothermal? I thought it would not get the water to a high enought temp for rads.

i have timber joices between ground and first floor, and yes, the rads run oof the hp should be oversized to compensate for the lower temps,.use plenty of insulation and then it is very easy to heat and keep at a confortable temp.

If goods are bought in a EU country, one pays the vat at point of purchace, unless with a registered vat no., where one pays at country of use.
Any comments on installing geothermal deep bore, in Donegal, would be appreciated, including installers. Also, what about buying windows/doors from Poland, and slates from Spain?

Hi, Fisherman,
Seen your very helpful comments. Am in the process of building my new house, geo thermal deep pump. Any advice re foofs/doors windows in the same vein - importing them, rather than buying in Ireland?
