Bought Car - Now Discover No Spare Wheel

I bought a car from a dealer about six months ago. When picking it up I was just concerned that the car looekd allright which it did. At the weekend howeve I was cleaning the boot and realised that there is no spare wheel. I had taken it for granted that these would be in the boot. Also there is no wheel brace. There is however a jack - although a but pointless unless I have a wheel to change.

Although we didn't specifically clarify this when I took the car do I have any comeback here? Should the dealer have provided the spare wheel etc. I had ammsumed that this was a given and didn't need to check it out.

The car is an 2004 so is not as if its years old where certain things go missing.

What kind of car is it?

Is there a wheel well in the boot under the carpet for the spare?
Some cars have a space saver spare under the bonnet.
Look underneath the car at the back the wheel might be there.

If it is def missing then go and talk to the dealer, maybe the spare was just missed.
 
No I assumed it was in the hidden compartment. It was only after cleaning the boot at the weekend that i took up the carpet etc to access the compartment for the wheel and found it to be empty.

Car is a Mazda 6
 
Definately revert to dealer. Is there any chance that you have a set of 'run-flat' tyres on the car, which in essence means you don't need a spare wheel?

Had a similar problem a few years ago when I bought a jap import micra for my wife, I ask the dealer at the time to give me a proper size wheel instead of the small yellow wheel, drove away for about 6 months when I noticed that I had a slow puncture, so went to put on the spare only to find that the 4 holes didn’t line up, check the wheel and it had a cut on the side wall (facing down in the boot when I checked first time) and was off a Peugeot 106!
So went straight down to the dealer, gave out to him for giving the wrong wheel and also dangerous wheel. He gave me a proper mirca wheel a apologised for the inconvenience, I would expect a spare wheel (or run flat tyres) to be in every car sold, especially from a dealer. Go back and demand it on safety grounds alone.


 
Just an update.

Spoke to dealer who argued that he wouldn't supply wheel as it was probably robbed from my car after it I bought it and it would cost him money to replace.
Definitely wasn't robbed and definetley was not in the car when I bought it as car has never been in garage or broken into.
 
Don't blame dealer tbh.

Caveat emptor - check any car fully before purchase.
 
Ah that’s a bit hard RS2K, I agree that you should check a car over before purchase, but the dealer should check if the car has a spare wheel in it surely? I think its poor customer service on the dealer’s part, and a spare wheel should be included in the sale. I would take this higher OP, not good if the dealer gets away with that. Might be worth getting a price for a spare wheel first, maybe from a scrap yard, before contacting anyone, just incase the wheel is cheaper than a court case!
 
Usually when you buy a used car the dealership should give the car a full service before the car is handed over. Thus, the car should not need to be fully checked (ie. no need to bring a mechanic) As part of this service, the tyres (and spare wheel/tyre) should have been checked.
