Black Friday 43" New TV....recommendations.

We haven't bought a TV in many years. We have the space for a 43". Looking for first hand recommendations for a reliable brand.

Is it worth buying in any of the Black Friday sales. Currys or Harvey Norman or Power City?

Our current TV's are Samsung and Phillips.

I have no idea of black friday deals, but with electronics, you can usually get good offers on bf or after christmas. We got a decent price on a 55" Samsung last January. I knew what model I wanted & they had it in Expert on sale. At the time Samsung had an extended warranty for 5 years on it, something that was important as some models seem to have sunspot issues. We were replacing a 2009 model!
So yeah, know what you want, then start looking at prices!
 
Coincidentally, I have been looking around at TV's for the past couple of days. The Irish market for televisions is... suspiciously well aligned. All of the companies I tried charge the same price for Sony, Samsung, LG etc. and pretty much have the exact same stock of these brands. Sony has a wide range of TV's in the 50"/55" bracket, but you would not think so looking at the various retailers websites. The same TV's at the same price! It is either the competition market working perfectly or the complete opposite. The only outliers were Arnott's/BT's which had slightly different TV's available in addition to the ones all the rest had. In short, the only difference will be on warranty, not price from the major electrical retailers.

Richer Sounds are broadly in line with the rest of them but have the best warranty.

I have a 2 year old UQ81 series LG and while it's fine other than being a little slow to respond to the remote, switching between satellite and Saorview TV listings is a real pain. May not be a consideration for the OP of course.

i have a CX Leo, maybe not the same but you can make long pressing on the 1 key a shortcut for say RTE on saorview and the 2 key a shortcut for BBC 1 on satellite, saves a lot of faff.

We have 2 Samsungs but they have changed the ability to stream from a browser I would not buy another Samsung as a result. We are considering LG. Picture quality etc was excellent but this has put us off.

Another one here for Sony TVs

I've been using Sony TVs for 20 odd years now and am on my fourth one currently and probably in the next year or two my fifth
The first change was moving from SD to HD, the top of the range HD TV developed a fault after three years that Sony couldn't fix
So they replaced the TV free of charge with their, at the time, top of the range HD TV but that died 5 years later of heavy use
So in 2018 I made the move to 4K and have been very happy with the TV for viewing and gaming
but do realise that with my heavy use this will probably need replacing soon

The reason I choose Sony over the other brands is I'm very invested in the Sony eco system, my AV amp, speakers, DVD player and soon to be PS5 Pro are all Sony branded products that are well built, look good, seamlessly knit together with very little fine tuning and are usually very well priced
compared to the competition

Black Friday can be very good for getting a good price on an item your chasing but I've found over the last few years that it's not the be all and end all of sales and other sales during the year offer just as good discounts but you need to be doing your research to make sure your getting the best deal for your needs
 
Is this your main TV?
Do you have a budget in mind?
What will you be watching on it - e.g. sky, streaming etc.

OLED are the best technology currently, LG or Philips would be my recommendation if going OLED.

Different brands are better at different things

We have two 32" TV's. Eyesight not as good now, often switch on the subtitles. Never watch the TV in our second room. Watch our downloads on our large laptop but occasionally watch some TV shows and Netflix, Ice Cool, Channel 4 on out main TV. Just about enough room to fit a 43" T.V. in alcove.
