Whats peoples views on best way to shop around to for car insurance when renewal is due?

Think i read recently someone suggesting to phone renewal company direct and try to go in as a new customer again? or was it to go through their website?

Kennco seems to cheapest for me. Whats peoples experience?

Thanks

Never automatically renew with the same insurer.
Set aside an hour or two and get as many online quotes as possible and compare the cover and price.
Get the quotes from individual insurers and also "aggregator" broker sites like Chill, QuoteDevil, Bonkers, GetCover etc.
In my experience, very often a quote as a new customer with your existing insurer will beat the renewal premium - even after haggling with them to reduce it!
And in many cases going elsewhere will save money.
This year for example my AIG premium increased but I was able to significantly beat it by going via GetCover. (It was also by far the cheapest quote that I got all told).
If necessary try a broker or two - I normally don't bother but it may be merited in some specific cases.
Always double check that the policy details match your needs and don't ONLY shop on price alone.

I have a excel list of 6 insurers with that years prices.

Every year I take off the most expensive from the previous year and get a replacement quote.I ring all 6 or do so online to get cheapest cover.

I do this for Cars/PPR/rentals.
Helps keep track of quotes & what I paid historically.

People just renew because People are time poor but make the time as significant money can be saved annually.

I found kennco cheapest for car insurance thus year Arthur, like yourself.
Never found them competitive myself.
As ever with insurance it's difficult to identify any "best value" provider for the general case due to the wide variance in underwriting criteria and personal circumstances.
Each individual consumer has to put in a bit of legwork (or get a broker to do this for a fee) in order to get the best value.
