Bank of Ireland transfer frustration

I’m in the process of buying a house and getting all funds into one place. All of the European banks - N26, Raisin’s many children, Wise, and Lightyear all performed beautifully, clear communication and on-time arrivals.

I planned my trip to BOI to move money from 3 savings accounts to a PTSB current a/c. After 90 minutes in the branch for lots of paperwork (useless as they couldn’t combine into one account for a single transfer out anyway) I went to computer school to enter the same detail three times, with no ability to cut and paste and manually typing the IBAN!

Two landed Thursday, yeah! The third one for 30k is in limbo. Just spent 15 minutes on the phone to trace it and find it didn’t go on Wednesday and was only processed last night, so end of day before it hits my account. They have singularly the worst tech behind their front end and being sent from Billy to Jack in the same branch being told two different things is such poor customer service. My only regret is I didn’t close the accounts fully - I dread stepping foot in there again.

The saga continues. Funds have not shown up on day 3 of a supposed same day transfer. I had to provide BOI with a copy of the transfer receipt (surely they have electronic and paper copies?). They wanted to see the initials of the staff member who made the transfer.

I emailed it earlier this afternoon and radio silence continues. At what point does it move from incompetence and inconvenience to fraud? When do they furnish the funds and do their investigation in their own time?

Interestingly their online complaint form does not provide an auto acknowledgement of receipt. Curiously it also does not allow question marks in the comment section of the complaint form, as in, “where is my money?”.

€30k.
It was the higher amount of three transfers from BOI accounts all done in branch at the same time. They couldn’t or wouldn’t combine to allow one transfer - maybe a good thing in retrospect.

I completed 9 transfers from banks outside Ireland, all on time. The only one that has presented a problem is the local one done in branch. The lack of response and ownership for the problem is shocking.

Is the destination iban bank account (your account) correct?
If so it will bounce back in a few days to the account you sent it from.
Been there with Trade Republic, quite unnerving but the transfer failed (!for want of a better technical term) and returned to tge sending account 4 or 5 days later.

BOI were updating their systems over the week, again. We had several complaints from yesterday and today about transfers not working. I am not exactly sure what the issue this time was.

Finally it landed. A message left from a mobile number - the bank - to apologise and that there was an error when the document was scanned. Lots of questions unanswered. Where was it “resting” and why not followed up when I enquired last Friday.

The funds would have sat in an internal suspense account within the bank as a failed/delayed transaction. As for not following up when you enquire last Friday, they have and they've reverted to you within 2 days. When something goes wrong, where the funds sit can depend on the reason it went wrong in the first place and it is not always straight-forward.
