South facing is best imho. That way you will have the sun coming from one side in the morning, from the end of the garden in the afternoon, and from the other side in the evening. If the garden is west facing that's still pretty good, but you won't get as much sun in the morning unless it's a bungalow.
Would like as much sun as possible especially as it is so scarce in this country. I currently live in a house with west facing garden and looking to buy a new house two we are viewing have north facing garden and other one has south facing garden.
The front of our house faces west and back east. It needs to be the other way around though, although it is nice having breakfast with the sun shining in. The ideal is a South Western facing garden or one of these.
Yes I also think west facing is best. My garden is facing east and my front west. I'd love it the other way round. South obviously gives you the most sun, but as said before the opposite to south is north, so you might have a sunny garden and the rooms facing the garden are bright, but the front will be dark and cold. The ideal is to have an end of terrace with the garden facing south, the front east and the unattached side of the house south!
My house faces south-west and we get the sun feom about 10 am to 7pm at this time of year it gets so hot that I am growing tomato's peppers ,herbs and I have a grape vine all in containers I also have been eating fresh strawberrys for the last two weeks
A lot depends on other buildings, trees, etc. I'm south-facing but the garden wall and neighbour's (rather tall!) shed which is to the west of my garden blocks the sun in late afternoon. Ideally I'd love west-facing.
No sunshine for you so foxylady.
I have a south east facing garden get sun all day long in the back and from about 4 in the evening at the front. suits us down to the ground.
