AVG no longer free

HI all

AVG anti virus will no longer update on my PC. It gives a little message about errors and internet connections and to try their website. when I go to their website, there are no sign of any free editions for home users. Can anyone confirm this? Think Il switch to Avast.
 
AVG has moved to version 8 - version 7 is no longer being updated

I do too. One PC in our house used to get nagged on a daily basis to update to 8.0. However the other one never got nagged and I have never updated it and I still get the daily updates. Long may it continue...
 
It might prompt you to upgrade to the pay version, but there is a free version of AVG 8.0 for home users on the free.avg.com for Virus Protection only.

There is lots of discussion of alternative free and commercial security tools in several existing threads which you should be able to find by searching.

I had a similar problem yesterday (around the same time as your post) but I eventually got it to update and it automatically updated today.

I think there message about visiting their site (avg) was to ensure you still had a connection.

Do you still have problems?
 
No problems now. I tried it again after 6 same day and updated ok. I get a bit concerned when AVs dont update, had alot of trouble with buggy Norton last year
before I got rid of it.
