Average gas bill for two bed house

What would be the average monthly gas bill for a two bed house?

The person concerned is entitled to free ESB or free gas. Which should they choose
 
What uses gas in the house? If only heating, is the heating on all round?

If you have access to old bills (or bank statement for direct debits) you could compare the total for each for a year.
 
My ESB bill trumps my gas. I live in a two bed apartment though - and it's third floor at that. It's naturally quite warm.

The ESB usually comes in at around €100 every 2 months.

The Gas is very often the mandatory minimum charge of €40-50 every 2 months. It can come in above that if it's been quite cold.

It's only our heating that is powered by gas, oven etc is electric.
 
Its hard to say what your bills will be as everybody has different appliances and uses power at different times of the day.

To decide what welfare allowance to go for, it really depends on your heating............if its electric then go for esb units.......if its gas, go for Bord Gais units.

As far as electricity goes, if you log onto the esb website and type 'appliance calculator' into their search menu, it'll bring you to an online calculator where you can enter the different appliances you have and the approximate amount of hours you use them per day/week and it will calculate how much your 2 monthly bill should be approximately. Obviously it won't be accurate but it should give you a good idea of what your bill should be :eek:)

I live in a 2 bedded flat and if I put the gas on for 12 hours a day I'be broke.

The water can be heated on its own usuing the gas and this is suppose to be cheaper as the rads aren't on (summer time I suupose) but I use the immersion for this. Really don't think you would need to keep it on for 12 hours to heat water - use the timer.

We have gas on max 4 hours a day during the cold days maybe a bit more at the weekends - both working - and our bill is about the 80 to 100 mark.
 
Just received out gas bill in for a 65 day period, 74 euros and this covers a large two bedroom apartment which would have the gas on for circa 6 hours per day heating water, rads etc.

Now that is exactly what I was looking for - an idea of what it might cost based on a real world experience.

Must have been something wrong with my gas meter then..................

I lived in a small 2 bed cottage up to the end of last year and my average 2 monthly gas bill was between 140 - 160. Heating was on 4 -5 hours per day max, only 4 radiators on. Had a gas oven too (not hob) and that would be on maybe 12 hours per week, so our usage wasn't over the top. We didn't have a gas fire either so it wasn't that that brought our bills up.

I phoned the gas company to query what average usage should be for a 2 bed house as I thought ours was high. They said to allow 20 per week when gas is being used for both heating and cooking.

I live in a two bed bungalow and I would choose free gas over esb. My gas comes in at 160 every two months and my esb would only be about 70 every two months, this depends though, i dont have a dryer or a dishwasher and i believe these items to make a huge difference to your ESB bill. I also very rarely use my imertion to heat water as my heating is on a timer and provides all the hot water we would need.

The Gas prices also go up alot more frequently than the ESB. Given the choice i would definatley rather have my heating especially where young children or elderly people are concerned.

You can always get a coin meter for the ESB where you pay as you go, i think they only do this in special circumstances now though.

We're in 3 bed house - ok so it's not 2 bed, but we hardly use heating upstairs and kitchen is rarely above 20 deg, if it is I turn off the heat.
Here's our last three gas bills.

I think that's huge, so if ever we even came close to 100e I'd be thrilled! Electricity in general is about 100e.
 
I live in a large 2 bed Apt and have Gas heating.
My bills have been around the €50 euro mark/2 mths since I moved in 9 months ago. The Heating is on for 4 hours a day during the week and 6 @ Weekends
My ESB has been far higer (but they have been estimated) and should come down.
But going on the last few places I have lived the ESB would be higher, depeding on what's used of course.
An electric cooker and Electric Shower use a lot of power. Basically anything that has a heating element uses a lot of power.

would that be enough in cold weather? The person has currently solid fuel central heating and the house is heated all the time if the stove is on. The new house has an open fire too but no back boiler.
