APT upstairs heating timer not working?

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone out there could point me in the right direction. I have 3 heating timers for downstairs, upstairs and water. They are the timer switches (manufacturer name APT) that you can set for different times of the day by depressing the relevant cogs (I hope this makes sense - I haven't a clue what the correct terminology is for such devices!). Anyway, the upstairs timer has stopped moving in a clockwise direction but if set to 'on' the heating will still go on upstairs. Any thoughts as to how to fix it - do I need a new thingymebob device??

Most builders providers/plumbing providers supply those clocks and it would be an easy replacement. The on off constant button is the usual culprit and will not switch.

If all the clocks are in the same location it might be a good time to look at an electronic replacement. I suggest the three channel version of the ChannelPlus XL from Horstmann. Using the boost and advance will save you in the long run. How many times has the heating been off or on because you forget to pull out the pin and push them back in again making a change?

This happened to ours as well. We moved to a digital one, the plumber said these are always failing, you only get circa 4 years out of most of them. Digital one has worked well, the only advantage for the ones you have it that you can set it to come on and off as many times as you want, whereas with many of the digital ones it only offers 2 on and off times.
 
That s a good point about the on off times. 3 should be plenty though for most situations.
 
This drives me nuts, you go into a house and there is 3 analouge time clocks side by side! why would the installer bother! go buy a decent digital time clock, the better ones come with 'boots' '7day programming' 'holiday functions' and lots more (the ones with 2 or 3 on/off periods for the day are poor at best)
 
Thanks for the responses, all advice considered. If I do decide to change to digital, how much roughly would it cost to replace the clocks?
