Looking for a Mac whizz to help me out. I want to apply for a job on publicjobs.ie, but their application page doesn't come up at all in Safari or Firefox (there's a box in the middle of the page that should appear) and it crashes the antiquated Internet Explorer on my machine.

Any Mac experts with tips for me?

I'm not a whizz...... but maybe you shouldn't be running Safari and Internet Explorer at the same time?

Is this the page?

If so then on my Mac it works just fine in Safari, Firefox, and Camino. If its not the particular page then post the page address and I'll have a look.

Funny one alright.

Running a Mac OSX 10.3.9

Tried it in Safari 1.3.2, Firefox 2.0.0.2 and Internet Explorer (for Mac) 5.2.

DaveD - it's actually the page that appears when you click "Apply Now" for a job. The box in the centre is blank in Safari and Firefox, and appears (but funny) in IE, but then crashes on submit.

Clear as mud?

Called them - they advised going to an internet cafe!!!! (Actually to be fair, they offered to complete the first bit of the form for me, but then said I'd need to go to an internet cafe for the test preparation!!!!)

Hi

site requirements page makes no mention of Mac, but gives browsers supported as

This site supports browser types Internet Explorer 5+ and Netscape Communicator 6+

seems to be quite Ms Windows-centric.

I agree - I'm finding it a bit frustrating. The main jobs site for public jobs and it's limited to Windows users (unless there's a way of doing it on the Mac that I haven't yet discovered).

I asked could they post me out the application forms, and this isn't possible - it's only possible to apply online. In this case, shouldn't they endeavour to provide access for all computer users?

I use firefox all the time but have to use internet explorer when going on the 'public jobs' site to apply for jobs. The 'java' window just sits there loading for ever on firefox. Take the advice and go to internet cafe. The application forms just take a few mins and all your contact with them will arrive via e-mail which you can view via your own computer.

Also, depending on the job, don't they give links to the organisation which is recruiting.

Often, visiting their site can result in an alternative way to submit a job application.

irishpancake - I think you might be confused? publicjobs.ie is the Government website for public sector jobs/civil service?

I know that, I actually subscribe to the site. I did say "depending on the job".

Take this for instance.

There are links to the Teaching Council recruitment site section. You can download the application form from there.

That center box seems to be ASP, Javascript and CSS. Perhaps your browser (what version) doesn't support some feature within that bit of code.
ASP is a server side technology so there is no concept of the browser "supporting" it.

Have you tried Opera?
