My washing machine has given up! Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good reliable machine?
I'd like something simple with a short wash programme and a large load capacity. Also where is the best place to buy? Thanks!

My mam just bought a bosch 10kg capacity machine recently. To early to judge really but it's going well so far. Cost a bit over a grand. Worth it for the 10kg I think.

Hi there,

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WT540. It has 7kg load which is labelled 'Family Load'. It also has 1400 spin though I've only ever used up to 1200 which gets a good load of the water out of clothes. Probably could have got a model just with the 1200! Plenty of different programmes but the normal cotton wash only takes about 1 hr 15 mins.

If you're interested in this model, shop around as I've seen a lot of price discounts on the different types - got mine in Power City but most electrical stores have the Hotpoint.

Comes in white or graphite (silver grey). I got the latter as it fitted in perfectly with my kitchen design.

We have a Bosch which has been used every day (at least once per day) for the past seven years, and never had a day's bother with it.

Miele, Bosch, Siemens. If you run the search option in this forum there are previous discussions on this subject.

I'll recommend one NOT to go for - Hotpoint

The dryer gave problems about a week outside the 1 year warranty and now the washer has a problem (about 1yr 8mths). The parts are covered but they charge about €100 for the engineer to come out.

They don't make 'em like they used to....my mother had a washing machine for about 15years !!

Have you got it checked out? Mine gave up but it turned out the reason was the Door lock was not closing properly so saved us €400 of getting a new machine!!
