The forum software you use should allow users to have some small image beside their left-column name on posts.

It seems AAM has disabled it.

Would it carry too much of a memory overhead to enable it ?

Or is it that AAM sees itself as a mainly serious forum and wants to discourage alter egos on its discussions ?

The only benefit might be to add a small bit of colour to site users' day.

Name recognition will be marginally more immediate from the avatar than from the name.

No benefit will accrue from the advice given - though users with sober and assuring avatars may find their advice given more weight than those with more levity. This may or may not be a good thing depending on the quality of the proffered advice.

So the benefits are more emotional than actual.

I agree with @Brendan Burgess. And allowing pictures might increase the workload on the moderators when some people inevitably start trying to use questionable or controversial images and the mods have to step in to censor things.

Avatars galore on Redditt.

Definitely a different demographic over there but I think it's fair to say that AAM is 'big school'.

Well, I certainly don't want to kindle the embers of Mammon worship in the hearts of Irish 13 year olds. :(

Just because a lad wins a few thousand out of the online poker doesn't mean he can be throwing his weight around the house.

I stand four square behind the right side in the Mammon vs Mammy dispute :(

But it's a great pity we can't have avatars.

I had a very good one that could be shared between @Purple and @ClubMan.
