amazon.ie now up and running

A few things I've noticed:

  1. When I open an emailed amazon ad it opens a dialog box asking me do I want ,co.uk or .ie - sometimes its nice to be remembered!
  2. It's challenging to put enough items in the basket to qualify for the €10-off-50 either because I'm an oldie in them thar parts or I missed the window to qualify - they have to be "by Amazon" items
  3. Coffee prices, instant, ground, or beans are expensive, pretty much on par with local shops
  4. Tiger Balm ointment is only €1.14 on .ie, but shipping is €35 as it doesn't get included in Prime offers. Either version, white or yellow, is €8.00 in my local chemists, and a few cents cheaper than that including conversion & currency charge from .co.uk. Strange.

I have no idea what this is but on the .co.uk site I see this 3 pack for €15.88 and free Prime delivery:

2 X Tiger Balm Red 21g + 1 X Tiger Balm White 21g (3 of Pack).

I have no idea what this is
Suppliers have to either let Amazon handle all fulfilment or enrol to enable Prime delivery for their products. Enrolment involves meeting lots of criteria like a local presence, sufficient volume, delivery speed, low returns, etc..

As I'm no longer a .co.uk Prime member, they add £5.99 delivery. Still a decent offer though for the 21g pots.

A great old treatment for stuffed noses, wheezy chests, and for minor strains, bumps, and bruises; a very decent all-rounder for your home first-aid kit. Milder smelling and less aggressive than other perhaps better-known rubs or linements.

Have the issues (customs charges, etc) that arose a couple of years ago with buying from the UK site been resolved at this stage?

I moved to the .de website and have pretty much stuck with it.

I also wonder if you order from .co.uk now is the order more likely to be fulfilled from the Irish distribution centre and avoid any customs issues?

I've checked all the items in my basket on the UK site and compared with the Irish site. They were cheaper by a couple of € on the Irish site. Mostly still seem to be shipping from the UK though

When I cancelled the Tiger Balm order, the .co.uk site offered me 7-day Prime membership for £0.99 (€1.18 plus €0.45 currency charge). I accepted and paid in Euro for the 3 pots €17.79 (€16.16 + €1.63) which is a great deal given they're the 21g size. Delivery due next Monday 24th. Muchas gracias @Ruffian

The only major issue I had with them was VAT on books. I complained, got refunds and the next order had VAT charged again. I asked for an escalation from their version of Alexa/Siri, got refunds in excess of what I was owed and I haven't had money problems with them since.

My very last book order, the hard-cover book arrived badly damaged. It looked as if a truck drove over it with the spine damaged and the book itself almost horse-shoe shaped. I got a perfect replacement by return and the postage refund for the return and token compensation are in train.

I figured there'd be glad to be rid of me, but they invited me back. :)

Customs issues are a thing of the distant past at this stage. I'm sure any of the regular stock items held in Ireland will continue to be fulfilled from there. At this stage the faster delivery estimates from the .co.uk site suggests items purchased from the .ie site but not normally stocked in Ireland might be subject to a slight delay.

Sorry not sure what happened with those links.
Anyway ordered two hoovers from Amazon UK for €72 each.
They were slightly cheaper on the Germany site, and more expensive via the Irish site.
One hoover arrived this morning via An Post, the second arrived later on via the Amazon man!

Great hoover BTW for €72 blips one for upstairs and one for downstairs.

For prices or for selection?
Both for me, I buy beans by the kilo and the supermarkets stock few if any of those, particularly the smaller stores. Dunnes have a couple of those on special but they're still marginally more expensive than the above sites and I'm too lazy to figure out the timing of sales :).

My thread title may be an exaggeration.

I threw a few things into my basket and tried to check them out using my long-standing and long-suffering payment method. Nothing happened. Absolutely nothing. I checked for hidden dialog boxes, but none were to be found. I quit Safari, restarted it, deleted all the stuff from the basket, and tried buying it all again. No joy.

I'll talk to Alexa/Siri again tomorrow and maybe try using Chrome instead.

Disappointing, sorry folks.
