I am a recent graduate and a mother of one. I have been working part time for the past 4 years to be able to go back to college and pay the mortagage(over 1000per mo) and childcare(485 per mo).
Due to the fact that I haven`t been able to find a job yet I am still working part time in a shop (weekends and late nights) usually between 8-16 hours getting around 700-850 per mo.
The childcare expenses are gone as my child doesn`t attend afterschool care due to the fact that I am able to collect and drop her to school and mind/help her with homework.
My husband works full time and gets 34-35K after taxes.

My question is am I entitled to claim any social welfare as I am looking for a full time job in the area I was trained after 4 years of college as I intended to have my part time job to pay my way through college only?(I know I am lucky to have it believe me)

The second questions: Are we entitled for a GP card at least as the bills for going to GP with my littlle one are very high this year.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for taking time to reply.

Unemployed persons can apply for Jobseeker's Benefit or Allowance (the former is based on PRSI contributions, the latter is means-tested).

To qualify for Jobseeker's Benefit, as well as having the required PRSI contributions, you must have suffered a substantial loss of employment (lost at least one day's employment and be unemployed for at least 3 days out of 6) - as you weren't working full-time and still have your part-time job, you may not meet this criteria.

The means-test for Jobseeker's Allowance will take your income and your husband's income into account.

You can find more information on Jobseeker Supports at the Dept of Social Protection website:

The income limits for the GP Visit Card (and medical card) can be found here:
