Hi all, just wondering what you're opinions are on Rationel and Sorpetaler aluminium clad windows. Have got quotes from alot of companies and have pretty much narrowed it down to these two, although Dansk are meant to come back to me with a formal quote in the next few days as well. Very little difference in price, any difference in quality? All comments welcome!!!

Been in the Sorepetaler workshop on the side of a mountian in Muckross and met the owner, saw the product.

4 guys incl owner fit and do the whole lot so would imagine you very much get the personal touch. Windows themselves are imported from Germany.

They looked great. No idea about Rationel as a comparison though.

I get that feeling about Sorpetaler alright. Actually haven't heard anything bad about them to be honest! Rationel are suggesting that we order our windows and get the builder to construct the opes to their specifications so that the windows will be ready for installing once the roof is on. Is this a disaster waiting to happen? They are not the only window company to have suggested it.

Saw that, but they only manufactured their timber windows there. Their aluminium clad windows are imported from scandinavia, and hence the 12 week waiting time between order and fitting!

We have alu clad windows but did not buy from either of the companies you mentioned (probably should have though!).
Our builder had to build openings to the sizes determined by the window company, it turned out to be a disaster and I would never do it that way again. We thought it would save us 12 weeks but it has actually delayed our project by approx 8 months.

I think asking your blockie/builder to construct opes to an exact size to fit the windows is a disaster waiting to happen - that puts the onus on you to get the sizes right rather than the window company.

We went with Rationel for aluclad windows. Ordered the windows last October - we are still waiting for some serious issues to be resolved. Take their stated leadtimes for windows to arrive from Denmark as a minimum. A number of ours arrived damaged and had to go back - another 12 weeks. Their fitters werent up to much and caused a lot of damage to the aluminium itself - still awaiting some trim to be replaced. Having said that, I am extremely happy with the product itself. I've had a particularly bad after-sales experience with them and trying to get things put right but somebody else I know who was dealing with them for similar windows at the same time had no problems at all. Maybe we were just unlucky!

It seems the days of replacing all your windows for 5k is over and now it is not unusual to spend 50k++ scarey.

I know one guy who got Aluclad windows from a company in Austria called Hracho Wina. They have a few reps in Ireland but i haven't got details. Prices are supposed to be competitive and good service. 8 week lead time supposedly. I have no connection with the company and i haven't seen the windows yet so can't comment on quality.

Munster Joinery are also doing Aluclad now. I wonder are they making them inhouse or importing them....

have you tried senator windows for a quote on aluclad windows.
they are irish owned and there should be a dealer near you.
i have seen their windows and they look pretty good.

Was in a house yesterday and they have Anderson aluclad type windows, they got them through a rep in the North. They are really nice windows and the owner said they were not as expensive as other companies that he priced. Definitely worth looking at them.

Hi,
