Aer Lingus Credit card - pros and cons?

I knew a change was inevitable but that is ridiculous. Making you spend double to get the same flight benefits (assuming avios points to get a flight wont got up, which they will). We get completely screwed with rewards in this country.

Any possible avenue to screw over the consumer.
Part (much?) of the reason that rewards are so poor is that the interchange fees in the EU, which are used to fund these kinds of loyalty/reward schemes, are so much lower than in the US.

Im most annoyed by the removal of lounge and fast pass. It worked really well for me, I have a silver card anyway but when travelling with my wife she could get into lounge and through fast lane with me and it was a genuinely nice perk that cost them very little.
She’d likely still get through Fast track with you as an AerClub member, no skin off anyones’ nose to let her through. The DAA security lads are pretty sound that way.

Hi; nice grid - thanks. Does AL cover winter sports I.e. skiing - do you know? Tia

Bank of Ireland has been working on a revised Aer Credit Card offering in recent weeks. An update in relation to this revised offering was posted to this page recently. This has now been removed pending further review.

The existing terms and conditions for the Aer Credit Card rewards (available here) remain in place. These are the terms and conditions that apply to the Aer Credit Card. If there are any changes to the offering in the future we will be in touch with our customers at that time.

We would like to apologise for any confusion caused for our customers.
Still assuming it will be a reduced offer, otherwise why change it?

Do you know if two people (the cardholder and an additional cardholder) can review the BOI aerclub card on a mobile app? Avant offer this but KBC did not, only the main cardholder could see anything for KBC. I'm not a BOI customer so it would just be the credit card.

Not on two separate logins, but you could just use the same login, there’s a bit of a faff in setting up a new device but it should work okay. You can even have two logins set up on the app, in case the second person already has a BoI account.

off topic -apologies

If any Aer Credit card user here not planning to use or about to expire their lounge access or FastTrack/priority boarding passes, I would be grateful to have them. we are family of 4 travelling with Aer Lingus next month. i have only 2 passes in my rewards section so looking for another 2 if available with any one. thanks

Just used some of the benefits, AL lounge was good, plenty of sandwiches/wraps and a hot food chioce. Bottled beer/spirits/wine/soft drinks.
Saved us having to buy anything in the airport and we were able to take some items on the flight.
Travel insurance for the year sorted for both of us. Approx 90 euro
Return flights for 2 to Crete next may booked. These are 700 euro currently on the site.
So for 6.5 a month its a no brainer for us.

This might be relevant to fellow seniors.! I was having problems getting travel insurance until I looked at the Aer card. Most companies put on a loading ( 200E +) if you're over 65 - they will also limit any one trip to 30 days. Withe the Aer card you can get travel insurance up to age 80 and any one trip can be up to 90 days. So buying an Aer or platinium card is a no brainer for any senior who might be going on an extended break.

For a limited time only, new card holders will receive 5,000 Welcome bonus Avios. Customers must open a new Aer Credit Card account between 13 January–28 February 2025 to be eligible to receive the welcome bonus. Eligible customers will need to spend the required €1,000 by 9 May 2025 to qualify for the 5,000 Bonus. Bonus Avios will be awarded by 9 July 2025. Cardholder must have a linked Aer Club account to receive the bonus Avios. If a cardholder is eligible to receive the welcome bonus but does not link their card to Aer Club by 31 Dec 2025, the bonus Avios will be lost.

If you already have a BOI credit card you should get it immediately. Mine was received within days back in 2023. However I got rid of it this year without using the flights last year. Back to the ordinary one now.

@MG Midget Never got round to using them (and yes I could have requested for sometime this year I guess up until beginning of January). I am just not in a travelling mood at the moment and just thought it was a hassle to have to deal with every year and be paying the 6.50 per month. I have built up over 50,000 Avios points through the eshop partners so I could go that route instead.

For others who would be in a travelling mood it might make sense, although even then the process isn't exactly like when purchasing flights and you have to pick your destination right - the lowest taxes and charges ones perhaps - and find the flight number and flight schedule before requesting.
