Anyone know if you get added years to your pension if you are a a professional grade. I heard that in some civil service depts you can get added years - I.e. you had to spend some years before entering the civil service gaining a professional qualification. Anyone any experience of this or know where there might be some literature on it.
thanks

Some literature:

Circular 8/2005: Public Service Pension Reform: New scheme for the award of professional, technical and specialist added years to certain new entrant staff of the Civil and Public Service

See also section 9.4 from the Irish Civil Service Pensions Information Centre Website (gives pension information for civil servants recruited up to the end of 2012)

Thanks muddle.. is there anything re: pre 1995 servants ?

There is no differentiation between pre and post 1995 entrants as regards eligibility and amount of years which may be added. There may be some adjustment to what this means in actual pension benefits between the coordinated and uncoordinated pensions.

Pre-1995 entrants would be evaluated either under the "Old Scheme" or the "New Scheme". If a pre-1st January 1993 entrant then it is the "Old Scheme". See 9.4 in the above links.
