Accounting qualification

Hi

I'm hoping at long last to gain a professional qualifiation, and am very interested in accountancy, I started studying it about ten years ago, but then met my future wife, and got distracted :)

Anyway, I'd like to start with IATI qualification part time, and am wondering about both evening and distance learning courses.

If anyone has info on these and would post, I'd appreciate it !

Also I know the part time course is two years, and one needs professional experience to fully validate the qualification, has anyone any suggestions how to go about this?

Is it a case of applying to accountancy firms or other local firms?

Many thanks, the wife is hoping to start an MBA in Manchester this year by distance learning, and sent me over here, after getting loads of good information from this site :)

Hi fgl,

I'd advise skipping the accounting technician qualification and starting the professional qualification instead. I know a few people who went on to do the professional qualification & felt that spending the two years getting the technicians qualification just prolonged their study and wasn't any real benefit.

You can do your ACCA exams while working in a job that is not accountancy related but in order to get the qualification you need to pass all the exams AND get three years relevant experience.

So you could start the exams now and take up an accounting job in a year or two when you've decided that you think that's definetly what you want to do.

You could check out www.accaglobal.com for more information.

You can do evening courses for ACCA in Griffith College, Dublin Business School or BPP.

As far as i know you can also start the CIMA, CPA and ACA exams while not working in an accountancy firm.
