Would there be any appetite amongst members, who like the outdoors, for a get together hike?

I'm thinking, something like, the Glencush Horseshoe on the Galty Mountains. It's 13km with 1,040m gain/descent and takes in four mountains. A general guide on duration would be 4h 15m (including stops) for an 'A' walker.

Looking at the 30th November, ready to walk at 09:30.

No worries if you can't navigate but you'd have to bring a good level of fitness and have the right footwear/gear. It wouldn't be a club/guide insured hike so you'd take that responsibility on yourself.

(Wasn't sure what forum to put this in, where folk might see it, so move it if you want to mods.)

Great idea Gerard, I wouldn't be able to make it though. Hope you get a decent crowd and have a good day.

Great idea and have often wondered why the only get together seems to be the Christmas drinks, maybe there isn't the appetite??

Unfortunately as I live in Blackrock a trip down to the Galties would be a bit of an expedition for me
But if anybody around the Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire, Cabinteely area would be interested in meeting up for walks in and around the area
or a hike up the Dublin/Wicklow mountains, I'd be on for that.

Is that from the North side of the Galtees?
Did a walk something like that a few years ago. But I was fairly hungover and was totally shattered by the end of it.
I might be up for it, but I mightn't be the fastest traveller compared to completely fit people.

I would love if someone could bring us to the Avoca River area and do a spot of searching for gold in Them Thar Hills......

@TrundleAlong

You have just missed the annual gold panning exhibition of the Irish Geological Association.

We are delighted to announce our annual gold panning event, this year on Saturday 28th September in Co. Wicklow. Details, including the link to our booking form, are attached below.

Please join us for this event in one of the most beautiful places on earth to stand by, or in, a stream - Sweet Vale of Avoca. Just be sure to book your place in good time to avoid disappointment, as this is one of the most popular IGA events each year.

Many thanks to the landowner, our intrepid Excursions Secretary Stephen Carrington, Frank Clissmann and Owen & Evan McFadden, as well as staff at Geological Survey Ireland in preparation for this event.

Looking forward to this event and to seeing you there!

The IGA Council Team
