58, Early retirement - multiple questions

Is the OP entitled to claim Jobseekers Benefit ? , seeing as they ceased working totally voluntarily, as they have retired, are not actively seeking employment.

And being available for a new employment, is it not a prerequisite for claiming job seekers benefit ?
He could be entitled to Jobseekers benefit.

If it was decided that he ceased his employment without good reason his claim could be disallowed for up to 9 weeks.

Actively seeking employment can be anything from reading the situations vacent page of a newspaper upwards.
If he is resident in the state and not otherwise committed e.g. full time carer and in good health he can state that he is available for work.
In practice DSP are unlikely to engage with a 58 year old to persuade him to rejoin the workforce.

Lots of people retire and claim Jobseekers Benefit. In fact it is a condition that post 95 public sector workers taking early retirement claim Jobseekers Benefit before they become eligible to be paid supplementary pension.
