Currently on Aviva business plan select but because I have just retired I am no longer eligible for the company discount. Cost coming in at €2220 for hubby & myself.

My husband has health problems but has a medical card which covers a lot of services.

I am reluctant to cancel but am confused by all the policies I have viewed.

Ideally I would prefer not to have to pay any excess & private rooms are of no importance. Thought about the Saturday fund also. Any advice would be much appreciated. Rgds E.

Hi E cork,

These 3 plans have similar hospital cover as before, no hospital excess, but limited or no outpatient cover.

Laya Healthcare;
1. Healthcare Plus No Excess; adult price; 1003(1033)pa. Price in brackets include a 3% charge if paying by instalments

VHI Healthcare;
2. PMI 30 12; Adult price; 1104pa.

Glohealth;
3. Best Plan; Adult price; 1110pa.

Laya Healthcare - with outpatient cover.
4. Company Care Plus is the only plan worth considering that includes outpatient cover and no hospital excess.
Adult price 1201pa(1237pa)

I know this is out of your price range, but I just showed it as its the cheapest plan with no hospital excess and good outpatient cover.

These plans have similar hospital cover as before, with a hospital excess, 1-3 with limited or no outpatient, 4-8 with outpatient cover.
NOTE; A hospital excess only applies to private or hi-tech hospitals, it does NOT apply to any public hospitals.

1. Aviva; Level 2 Health Excess; price per adult; 904pa.
2. Glohealth; Better Plan; price per adult; 915pa.
3. VHI Healthcare; One Plan; price per adult; 943pa.

Similar hospital cover, including outpatient cover and hospital excess.

Aviva;
4. Health Plan 05; price per adult; 946pa.
5. Health Plan 06; price per adult; 980pa.

VHI Healthcare;
6. PMI 10 11; price per adult; 945pa.
7. PMI 14 11; price per adult; 1050pa.

LAYA;
8. Total Health Choice; price per adult; 1017pa(1047pa).

As regards the Hospital Saturday Fund, any of the above plans 4 to 8, which include outpatient cover would work out cheaper and
better value all round.

There are several alternatives to consider, hope you find suitable options.
You could each choose a different provider, as an option, if it suits your individual needs accordingly.

Thanks a lot for the info Snowyb.

You have been a great help & made it easier for me to choose. Have spent the afternoon calling the various healthcare providers.

Laya are coming up trumps at the moment as they don't charge €2,000 excess for orthopaedic procedures, given our age group this is important.

I also found that we could each have a different policy e.g. a combination of Health smart for hb as he has medical card & Company care plus for me.

Cost coming in under my Aviva quotation.

Will browse for another few days before I decide.

Rgds E
