We are a family 2 adults and 2 children age 4 and 2. Received a quote from Aviva for our existing plan - business plan extra for 3100. Due renewal on 23/02/13.

One adult needs private room in public hospital and cover for physio. 2nd adult does not need private room or everyday expenses cover.
I would like to claim for speech and language for the 4 year old but dont really need day to day expenses for the 2 yr old child.
Can we all have different plans. I looked at Laya company plan and with aviva- a combination of Business plan select and maybe health value plan?

Anyone any advice. Not even tried to look at VHI-

Hi,

Firstly, to answer your queries, each family member can be on a different plan and also VHI don't cover speech therapy for children.

OPTION 1:
Best options with Laya Healthcare as follows:

2 x adults on Total Health Choice 874.44 x 2 = 1748.88
1 x child on Health Smart Family(4 yr old) 200.00
1 x child on Health Smart ( 2 yr old) 130.00
________

Total premium 2078.88 + 3% (3% charge if paying by instalments)
=2141.25pa

OPTION 2:
The adult requiring physiotherapy could choose Aviva to avail of their "back up" treatment programme. Best options as follows;

Business Plan Select 1048pa
or
Health Plan 05 952pa

I would suggest the other adult + 2 kids choose Laya options as above.

OPTION 3:

Glohealth Better Plan 842 adult price (Kids under 3 are free on this plan)
I would recommend this for 1 adult and 1 child(2 yr old)

www.hia.ie/ci/comparison/step3?298

Also, 1 adult with Laya Total Health Choice 874.44pa ( with physio needs )
1 child(4 yr old) Health Smart Family 200.00pa ( with speech therapy needs)

www.hia.ie/ci/comparison/step3?323&295
Overall cost for 2ad + 2ch;
1074.44 + 3% + 842 = 1948.67

Hope this throws some light on your decision making.

Thanks so much for the advice. I decided to go for option 1. Just seems easier to have us all with one company. Appreciate the speedy reply
