Hi folks,

We were due to renew our policy at the 28th of Feb so currently just inside the 14 day period where we can change policy free of charge. Admittedly we need to change immediately so any help would be greatly appreciated.

We were with Aviva on Business plan Select for two adults and one child, costing €1947.71 per annum but this has increased to €2,456.

Due to price increase we need to change plan. One of our main reasons for selecting the Business plan was private maternity cover but this shouldn't be a issue for the next year. We also recently had another child.

My wife and I are in good health, only complication may be the need for an operation on my foot (not a deal breaker though).

We're seriously debating the need for cover for the children and would like any advice on this.

Is the main benefit for the children the ability to see a consultant as a private patient in a public hospital.

Many thanks in advance for any help,

Hi Daidi31,

There are two good options to consider including the two children at good prices.

OPTION 1 Laya Healthcare;

Adult Plan;
Total Health Choice; Price per adult; 874(900) - public,private + hi-tech cover(as before),good outpatients.

www.hia.ie/ci/comparison/step3?133&323/

Kids Plan;
Health Smart; Price per child; 130(134) - public,private + limited outpatients.
or
Health Smart Family Price per child; 200(206) - public,private + good outpatients.

www.hia.ie/ci/comparison/step3?133&294&295/

(prices in brackets includes a 3% charge if paying by instalments)

With a renewal date of 28 Feb 2013, the two kids plans were on offer at the above prices upto and including 28 Feb 2013.
These reduced prices are still available to you because of your renewal date, they have increased in price since 1/3/2013.

Total Family cost; 900 x 2 + (134 x 2) = 2068

OPTION 2 GLOHEALTH

Glohealth has good value for people with very young children - children under 3 go free.

Adult Plan;
Better Plan; Price per adult; 842 - public,private and hi-tech hospital cover(as before),limited outpatients.

www.hia.ie/ci/comparison/step3?133&298/
Note; All children under 3 yrs are included free on this policy, if your older child is under 3, he/she will also be free as well as the newborn.

If not the following plan will be suitable;
Kids Plan;

Good Plan; Price per child; 160 - public hospital cover( there are no kids private hospitals in Ireland)
www.hia.ie/ci/comparison/step3?133&297/

As an added extra if required, an outpatients cash plan can be included as follows;

Daily Care Better Plan; Price per adult; 198 - outpatient cover for consultant,gp visits etc.

NOTE; Any free children on your policy are also included on this outpatient plan for free.

www.hia.ie/ci/comparison/step3?outpatient&304/

You have the choice of just one adult switching to Glohealth with the 2 children.
Since you have surgery lined up in the next year, you could switch to Laya - Total Health Choice, which has hospital cover as before
and also good outpatient cover for any visits and physio that could follow. PRICE; 874(900).

Total family price 842 + 900 + 160 = 1902
or
Alternatively you could both choose Better Plan 842 x 2 + 160 = 1844

Families having cover with 2 health insurers to save money is becoming a trend in recent months.

Glohealth is a new provider in the health insurance market, set up by a few executives formerly from Aviva. Their plans are similar
to Aviva in layout.

Hope this throws some light on your decision making.

Dear Snowyb,

I'm very sorry this is so belated but thanks so much for the time and effort you put into giving us this info. It helped an awful lot and gave us great piece of mind.

Take care and thanks again,
