Hi I am with Laya, 2 adults, 2 young adults & 2 children. My husband & I our policy has increased by €381 each this year …..that’s a 25% increase on our policy last year. My daughter has turned 18yrs so I knew her policy would increase….but overall our policy has gone from €335 a month to €505 a month. Shocked. Does this not appear exorbitant?

It's been mentioned that some policies increased by 25%. Apparently the lowest increase is about 15%.

Dernot Goode was on news talk today, he's very good. Worth a listen.

Can’t understand how they can do this….im sure when I cross check last years & renewal policy that benefits will have changed for the worst‍. Don’t know what to do as can’t afford that increase.

Hi,

It is an awful lot of money alright but when it is spread over 6 people its understandable how it is arrived at. I'm not saying that its justified.

Dermot Goode from totalhealthcover regularly mentions that a good policy these days averages around €1,500 so your €505 x 12 = €6,060 - approx €4,500 for 3 adults = €1,560 between 3 = €520 each.

Perhaps if you try the new company Level Health you might get something cheaper with equivalent cover. Bonkers gives some advice about looking around here. Unfortunately getting through to Level Health at the moment does appear to be tough.

Give Laya, VHI and Irish Life a call to see if you can get something cheaper. If you look at the Health Insurance Authority website as of the other day their prices did not include the VHI increase on 1st October.

Best of luck with your endeavours :)

Thank you….we have our over 18’s on student rates. Our 2 youngest on entry rate children’s policies. My husband & mine policies have increased to almost €2000 (net). I just don’t understand there’s no regulator preventing these huge increases

Yes they are particularly silent on regulation begs the question

Sounds like good policies because I said above €1,500 gets a fairly good policy per Dermot Goode. Perhaps you could go for something cheaper. If you share the details of your policies here others might be able to offer advice or perhaps your insurance company can help.

You could also have a listen to the podcasts here for advice.

Good cardiac care & we’d like to keep the day to day expenses for both of us …..orthopaedic seems to be the game changer whether to go for less cover or not at 50yrs?? 2 over 18’s on signify plus.

If you had a regulator ‘preventing price increases’ you’d very quickly have no health insurers in the market at all!
