€1 million For Rory Gallagher's Guitar . . . Or For Donal Gallagher's Lifestyle ?

Perhaps as a temporary loan arrangement, isn't Crawford run by an independent charity and not part of the NMI group?
Crawford I think is run by MTU now and has nothing to do with NMI but there are not a massive amount of museums in Cork City TBh

It may be run by them under a standalone charity designation, I don't know. My point was the NMI are unlikely to just hand over an artefact like the guitar to an external organisation.

Interesting to see the V&A are opening a Bowie exhibition.

To be honest, one stand alone guitar from a minor rock star like RG won't attract many people bar some die hard fans but if it was, for example, an exhibition on music in Ireland or 1970's Cork, it might be have more success.

The €30 million Rugby Museum in Limerick is to close 2 days before Christmas 2024.

No wonder to those of us living here. It had a novelty value at the start but now it's just another place with too-dear ticket prices and outrageously priced sweatshirts, etc.

If it wasn't so dearly built, it would be a wonderful new temple for our local Mormon community. You might say that with such a purchase the Mormons would be letting the world know that they had finally "arrived" in Limerick.

Know what, we've got such a big and growing muslim community that a central mosque might not be such a crazy notion.

In the Rory Gallagher space... saw this on Twitter... best selling artist from each county. Not sure of accuracy.

It's a great bit of work but I'd be very surprised if it's even remotely accurate. I can't see Cry Before Dawn outselling U2 anywhere, let alone Derek Ryan (who?), Karen Casey (who?), or any of about 20 of the other people/bands listed.

Derek Ryan is a huge Country star(so my M in law tells me), I would have thought Richie Kavanagh (of Aon Focail Eile fame) would give him a run for it in Carlow.

Karen Casey is a folk singer but surely Val Doonican would have passed her out or Brendan Bowyer.

Ronan Tynan would surely have sold more then Kerbdog (Kilkenny metal band in case you are wondering)

Fascinating map though

The Corrs were a question on Only Connect last night, quite proud I got it right on the 3rd clue

Well it would be 'from' the county, so U2 probably have out sold all the rest in the county but those artists are the best selling from that county.
Some of the choices are dubious. Not sure what the metric is, album sales, singles, youtube streams.

You don't know who Derek Ryan is? You've obviously avoided the Late Late Country Music Special so all these years and missed out on all the craic (largely unintentional)!
He does a nice cover of Last Christmas, and seems like a lovely chap but I wouldn't be a big fan of the C&W thing.

It is certainly a map to kick off a conversation though.

I think its artists from that county so U2 can only be top of the pops in dublin but undoubtedly have outsold most if not all of the others.

Great map, whether accurate or not, a good idea.

Northern Ireland really has had good talent in the respective counties.

Enya surely has outsold everyone bar maybe U2?

Great map.

Good man, Makem - the Bard of Armagh :D. I'll have to tell my ma about that one.

The England map is less satisfying.

I'd like to see a finer breakdown within London districts, for example.
