have my philips 42" lcd hd tv a tad under 2 years. got home this evening and it was working fine. then the screen just goes black but you still have sound. if you knock the tv off and on you get a picture for a second and then it goes black but you still have sound. anyone any ideas as to what is causing this and is there an easy remedy.

the next part of my question is extended warranty which i took out when i purchased the tv. i got the tv from HN. i rang them this evening and they said i had to ring the extended warranty company during office hours, mon-fri. what can i expect when i ring this crowed. will they attempt to take it away to repair or will i just get told to bring it to a certain location and they will just give me a new similar tv.

I looked into my crystal ball and the answer I got was "ring this crowd"

Warranty company will more than likely arrange to collect it and take away for diagnosis. Could be a number of weeks before you see it again. The terms of the agreement you signed at the time of purchase will spell all that out.

very helpful belowpar,
just wanted to be forearmed so to speak.

Well to be fair to Levelpar and all the rest here, how is anybody meant to know what the warrenty company might or might not say?

If you ring them and then have a problem, or are not happy with their response then post here with the details and I'm sure you will then get constructive and helpful advice and avoid anybody trying to preempt what might happen.

Would be curious to know the outcome of your dealings with Philips following the above as I've just got a Philips tv

Also have a general question on the Phillips extended warranty would like peoples thoughts on. I just purchased a Philips 8 series and main reason I went with Philips was because of their extended manufacturers warranty of 4 years i.e. this isn't a purchased extended warranty, but an offer from Philips at the moment. However I was disappointed when I got my warranty form and noticed a policy where Philips can "cancel this document at any time with 14 days notice".

Is this allowable?? I would understand if I had paid for a warranty or insurance on the product and might get some refund if it was cancelled, but this was a warranty I got for buying Philips so they surely can't just cancel that warranty at their leisure?

Cheers

my extended warrenty was with HN who farm it out to another company. chap brought back my tell after 5 days and it was fixed. i was glad i had the extended warranty. chap said it would have cost near on €500 if i had to pay for it myself.

Must of had to replace the screen at that price, how much did the extended warrany cost?

i think it was €150. would have to check my receipt when i get home. do not think it was more then that.
