Hi,hope someone can advise me.I shut down my Pc last nite with the power button, this morning it will not start back up for me.The screen is showing the Reboot Options which i have all tried to no avail. Also the Pc is Rebooting itself every 30 seconds.Windows Xp is the system enstalled and the Pc is an Iqorn which is about 6 years old.My question is can i do anything to fix it myself or will i have to call in a Techie Man,last time he cost 100 Euros. Is It Maybe time to invest in a new Pc as this one has become very slow and is only really good for internet Browsing.I have nothing like pictures, documents stored on this Pc. Any sound advice appreciated. Chippy

Hi Chippy,

Your computer could be infected. Press F8 a couple of times when you first turn on your computer. You will get whats called an advanced startup menu. Choose Last Known Good Configuration. If windows loads successfully, scan your computer with Anti-Virus and programs to remove infections.

Also if you have an Windows XP CD try and boot from the CD, by inserting the CD and turn the pc on, you should see a message saying press any key to boot from CD

Do What Chris suggests above, but if you have no luck, then from the advanced startup option select "Safe Mode" and when/if that boots you should be offered an option using "System Restore" to restore your computer to an earlier date.
Select a date you know the computer was working OK on and let it do its stuff.......hopefully than all will be OK.

BTW. You should never shut down your PC by using the power button..........I Know, a little bit late to tell you now.:)

They say about 4 yrs is good for a pc after that it may start going down hill a bit. If you can't get it going satisfactorily I would consider getting a new one.

thats rather a sweeping statement...

however, it could well be a h/w issue so if it came with diagnostic disks you can try those

Hi again, I have tried all the options on the advanced startup,im afraid no joy and also tried reinstalling Windows Xp Cd,not a dickie bird happening there aswell.Have i run out of options before i think about ringing the Pc Doctor? Chippy

It is still rebooting when you boot off the Windows Install CD to do the reinstall? Get that Far? If so check that the CPU fan is spinning and it's heat sink in seated properly.

It could be a memory issue... especially if you cannot boot using the CD.

I would recommend getting a new computer for about 400 to 600 rather than paying 100 Euro to have a 6 year old one repaired.

Try repeatedly tapping F10 during startup. This should allow you to access the hidden recovery partition and do a clean install.

Hi CAFF,your advice worked a treat thankyou, my Pc is like brand new.I was just about to chuck it in a skip when i spotted your reply to my post. Kind Regards Chippy
