1 day of power cuts in Caracas and Hugo Chavez sacks the Minister in charge:

Days of water shortages and nothing, oh except possibly forcing a company put staff on protective leave:
[broken link removed]

Mind the water shortage sounds like a good analogy for the economic crisis:

Huge wastage by the authorities that as well known and yet still never tackled (in Cork nealry 45% of water was "lost" every year! 45%!).

Ignoring the unsustainable practices of construction companies, in this case standards for water supply.

Excessive use by a few.

Every has to take the hit, no matter how prudent they were.

The pipes froze in my Mam's house during the bad weather and when she mentioned it in work, some people told her to leave her water running overnight - that's what they did to ensure that they wouldn't be affected.

Residents in my estate (including myself) who had problems with water supply over Xmas/New Year received a letter from a local councillor telling us that it was essential to keep the taps running to avoid frozen pipes!!

So your local councillor tells you leave taps running and Government heads are crying out because poeple are leaving taps running

Did anybody question this with your councillor?

The thing is ...if you decide to leave your taps running, you only need to leave running small bit, enough to fill a mug a minute.

Not to my knowledge - it hasn't hit the local paper yet either...!!

Over 8 hours, that's 480 mugs of water which is a lot of water if it's multiplied by 370 houses (in my estate alone).

That might seem a lot of water to you but the loss from freezing and burst pipes would be much more.

We are a water rich country where we don`t have to watch every small leak.

Gormley is looking at it from the water companys point of view, who are not able to deal with the water demands from the consumers, despite the fact that 50% of the water is lost thru`leaking mains pipes.

Gormley is looking at it from the water company's point of view...

The water company? What water company?

I would have thought the John Gormley would bring some of the Green party perspective to bear on the issue.
