Club del Carmen - Lanzarote

Booked flights to Lanzarote for a week in January. Went looking for an apartment to rent and found Club del Carmen on holidaylettings.co.uk. Rate seemed good and includes free transfer from airport. Sent email and had a call back from a lady who told me that this is a 'promotional' offer and we would have to attend a 90 minute talk by resort reps. Obviously the resort, Club del Carmen, is some sort of timeshare development and I can certainly endure a 90 minute talk/tour without caving in but I am slightly worried about the whole thing. The lady emailed me and the website at the bottom of her email is www.holidaysinpartments.com
www.feriare.com. When she rang me to confirm yesterday, she is keen!, she asked name, address, occupation and age. Is that suspicious?

Has anyone used these? Are they kosher? I fear fraud or identity theft or both.

Thanks Slim

is a good site for checkiing holiday apartments. I like it because it has google map links so you can see exactly where the places are. Club del Carmen does not show up on it. Why, I don't know. Neither can I find it on .

While name, address, age would not be an unusual request when booking an apartment, I would be very careful about giving any other personal data , credit cards etc. if you are not entirely happy with the booking.

There are many good apartment complexes in Puerto Del Carmen that you can book direct. If you are uncertain about this one check out the others.

I`d avoid this promotion offer. It might seem o.k. for you to listen to a talk by the reps as a small price to pay for a good deal. But don`t forget this company is out to make money and you will be subject to boiler room tratment for hours on end by a relay of salespeople using every trick in the book. You may resist but what about your partner? Because you are staying in their hotel you are an easy target and of course the hotel prices mightn`t be that good.I know a lot of sensible people who sucumbed to the pressure and ended up paying 3k on future stays in hotels. The dates would only be off season and would be hard to get flights and even if one managed to get there would then be targetted in a suckers roundup for an even bigger outlay.Avoid like a plague is my advise. Also the winning of prizes by scratchcard is another way to get to the boiler rooms so don`t fall for this ploy either.

It's definitely a timeshare resort located down in Playa Pocillos. I can recommend the La Penita apartments which are closer to the New Town of Puerto del Carmen - have stayed there a few times & the place is gorgeous. Airport transfers from ACE to PdC are only about a tenner.

No don't go to club del carmen, they try to tie you into a scheme similiar in some ways to timeshare. I would either go through normal travel agent or book your own accommodation directly. There are tons of lovely places to stay in PDC with great facilities for children.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Rois - have you had the experience there?

Y es, was there when my friends had signed up for it. Don't think they've ever made use of it since. It's a kind of scheme where you can go to their other "clubs" aka timeshare. But you pay your own flights etc.

Also, it was a bit out of town in PDC and actually not in the nicest part. They joined, but regret it now.

I have sent an enquiry to La Penita, thank you.

Thanks Rois, hard to beat first hand info.

If you search on this site for apartments in Lanzarote, you'll find some highly recommended places.

Don't worry about transfers from airport to PDC, at most expect to pay about 15 euros for a taxi from right outside the front door.

Slim,

They are lovely apartments with a very large pool in the centre of the complex, a daytime bar and right beside some great restaurants opposite the Casino. What really impressed me was that they were cleaned almost every day which is a rarity in any self-catering accommodation!
