The OH is a registered nurse and her quarter fees for the INO have gone up this year.

Surely this can not be correct.

I remember reading a couple of months ago the Trade Union bosses get paid more than their UK counterparts.

can union members vote to have dues reduced?

Trade unions are a business and have to balance the books like every other business. I would imagine a lot have lost members due to increasing emigration, people loosing their jobs and not seeing the point of remaining a member or people simply loosing faith in union leadership. Against that, their workload may have gone up because there are far more IR issues going on at the minute then ever before. Hence, and in fairness (and I am no lover of unions), they may find it difficult to cut their own costs, and politically, may not want to be seen to be laying their own staff off

Remember as well that union leaders have heroically decided not to take pay cuts themselves, because, as one put it, it would set a wrong example !!

I am no fan of trade unions either

I believe trade unions should look after workers welfare in terms of working conditions and resolving disputes between employees and employers.

I dont believe trade unions should be involved in pay talks and that the market should determine this.

Anyway, I did read how trade unions head have not taken a pay cut and think that trade unions also need to cut their costs down.

I will look into this matter further because quarterly fees have gone up from 80e per 1/4 to 86e per 1/4. Thats an increase of almost 7%.

Yes ok the number of paying members have probably dropped but overall administration and running costs should have also dropped.

And their fancy website and their fancy glossy magazine but contact them for help and........silence.

Don't forget the unions have lost millions in the banks.

The same banks that they criticise for their reckless gambling and rampant capitalism.

Ironic then that a lot of the union losses were incurred precisely because they had invested in high risk stocks/shares etc themselves.

They didn't mind the banks 'strategies' then did they?

Are these the same unions that secured pay rises since the early 90's for both public and private sectors.
