The anti Christmas thread

The bleakness of those days between 26th and 30th is awful - I plan to stock up with food and drink and stay under the
duvet with a portable toilet for the full 120 hours this year.

Ah - no bleakness for me this year, Ive compiled of places/things I want to visit and plan to do a road trip around Ireland, staying in nice hotels and eating nice meals along the way.

Sounds great - just make sure everything is actually open and properly functioning though.

It would not surprise me in the slightest if you were told somewhere
"Ah no, y'see I know it says that the all day medieval feast option is available every day but...ya know...well...its Christmas isn't it?"

Most of the things Im going to see are neither open nor closed - things like sites of mythological significance, ruins, ogham stones, that kind of thing. The only downside of this time of year is the cold (Ill be well wrapped up) and the early darkness, however it gives an excuse to be safetly tucked up in the hotel bar at an early hour :)

As regards the rest - Ill be booking the hotels in advance, by phone, and questioning them on whats available in terms of facilities!!!

Personnaly speaking I love Christmas but I had carolers at my door last night (Nov 30th) which must be a record. I wouldn't mind but they were crap as well

I love Christmas now too ( didn't enjoy it as much when single and even before children). What's not to like? No work, no school. We make an effort to go for long walks every day of the holidays, in the woods, in national parks etc. And home to a hot drink, leisurely lunch/dinner, family that we don't get to see the rest of the year ( family that we actually like), santa claus, the races on stephens day, the sales, the tv christmas specials, midnight mass and irish coffees, champagne and roast chestnuts and log fires. Can't wait.:D

You have a bad attitude Caveat. Is it bleak having days off work?!

I have 2 annual excursions during that period that make my Xmas, 27th is a fishing trip with old friends and 29th is a mountain climb with friends. The weather does rattle us but it makes the turf fire, chowder, homemade bread, pints, cards & craic afterwards all the more enjoyable...! Cant wait...
