Freeview & Sky Boxes together

Hello AAM members,

I am trying to get info on using a freeview & Sky box together on one dish.

I have sky installed for the less than two years, so I am "almost" sure my dish has dual LNB. I read that if you have sky installed less than 4 yrs the dish should have dual LNB, which is needed for sky +

My question is, if I buy a freeview box for the bedroom, is it just a matter of running a second cable to LNB? Do I need to actually go up on the roof to do this? Any guide on the web to do this? ( I have searched)

Any info would be great.

Thanks.

You need to run a second cable of CT100 (which you can't get or it's equivalent) not the cheap UHF cable. I cant tell you if you need to go up on the roof, as I dont know where you dish is! But you do need to get to it!

You may or may not have to go to the dish. If you currently have two cables running from the dish and are not using Sky + in your current box then trace the two cables and re-route one of the cables to the new box. You need two cables for the Sky+ box AFAIK.

Perhaps its different in Ireland, but Freeview in NI uses an aerial not a satellite dish to feed it.

I'm confused.

I think that the OP may be mixing up Freeview with FreeSat. Freeview as you rightly say is aerial based while FreeSat requires a Satellite dish pointed at the sky!

Thanks for the replies. The dish is located on the roof by the way:) I will make my way up to the attic later today so see what cabling is coming from the dish through the roof. I hope that there are 2 cables, dont fancy going up onto the roof in this weather.

Whatever you do don't get a Freeview box as it won't work with your satellite dish, no matter how many outputs your LNB may have.
You need a FREESAT box or an equivilant digital satellite reciever.

Thanks SparkRite, That is what I was looking for, just worded it wrong in my post.

Will something like this work:

[broken link removed]

Cheep and cheerful?

Could you please point me in the right direction so, as I am lost.

Please provide a link to a compatible digital satellite reciever?

Many thanks

No Problem, any amount of them being sold on Ebay.
Just do a search for "Freesat"

If you see a box you like and would prefer to buy from a shop based retailer then just google the make and model you picked and take your choice........

Or if you prefer you can buy somthing that allows more scope, have a look here, for example.....

But if you are not used to digital recievers then you may be better off just sticking to a bog standard "Freesat" box.
