Hi I seem to be having a problem with computer. I was using agv free and did get a warning about a virus last night which I thought I had sorted. When I went to turn on the computer it was blank but I have managed to get it running on safe mode. I have scanned the whole computer for virus with avg and it said nothing to report. I do not want to turn it on incase I cant get it working again. Also when it was scanning it was saying files locked not scanned. This seemed to be for alot of files and I dont think I every saw that when running a scan previously. I have lots of things like photos and files that I have not backed up. Can I do so now. What steps do I need to take next. The sound does not seem to be working either. HELP NEEDED PLEASE!

Hi Coleen,
While in "Safe" mode use "system restore" to restore the computer to an earlier date when all was working ok.

Also can you tell us what your O/S is please as this would help all potential problem solvers.

i am not sure what o/s is but if it is operating system I have windows xp on a dell inspiron that is about 4 years old or more. I will run systems restore. Do I need to buy an anti virus program or should what I am using be ok ? thanks for that

AVG has a pretty good rep, better than some paid products.

The problem may not have anything to do with a virus. It could be as simple as someone having pushed the power button on/off so that the PC was cut off in the middle of trying to boot up. As SparkRite has suggested, first try doing a "system restore" and post back then.

I have done a system restore and this has worked thanks. I have found that the computer has got slower so I may need to do something to clean it up and make sure I have proper virus protection in place. I will check if I need to update my agv and glad to hear it has god rep
