Hi

Using Vodafone mobile BB for a few days now. Good connection and generally happy. However, for the second time now, when I open my browser, the old eircom dial up window pops up and when I opt not to use it the browser page won't open - it behaves as though I am not connected. My mobile connection is still going but I can't use my browser because of this. Restarted the PC and it was fine - connected and browsing no problem and no eircom pop up.

It's almost as if both connections are occasionally fighting against each other - anyone know anything about this?

If you don't need the eircom dial up go into the internet connection settings and delete it. It's probably listed as the default way to connect and as a result it's causing the conflict.

Thanks - ideally I would prefer not to actually delete it just in case I ever need it but maybe it's the only solution. I can't actually find where it's physically listed as a default connection though - there don't seem to be any options under the standard settings/modems tabs.

In Internet Explorer (yes , I know you use Firefox) go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections. Tick "Never Dial a Connection". Press "Ok".

Aha! - sounds good to me - thanks for that. I'll try this evening.

What about Firefox though - is there an equivalent of this? There must be I suppose.

There isn't.

Although it's located in IE , it's a windows settings. All browsers use it.

OK, to follow your steps jhegarty had to actually download IE as I didn't have it - so got IE7.

Problem is, it won't even open. Is 7 a buggy/dodgy version? I just randomly picked it really.

Should I maybe uninstall and try a different version?

These options appear as "Internet Options" in the control panel (classic view) on XP (sp3 anyway)/connections subtab.

Yes, I saw that but it won't open for some reason - because I don't have a properly functioning version of IE maybe?

Great.

So uninstall my 'weird' IE 7 and reinstall, I dunno, an earlier version?

OK after much frustration and messing about I took your advice Paddy.

Didn't want to initially as it appeared that some of the mobile BB components were somehow embedded in this connection (according to the description) - but went ahead anyway last night.

Everything seems to be behaving now.

Thanks to all.
