I must correct you , Jack O'Connor does not have the power to initiate strike action , SIPTU can only initiate strike action if mandated to do so by it's members , again you are attempting to individualise matters.
Leaders should lead in a responsible manner, would be my response to that.I will repeat that I dont care if the leader is JOC or Micheal Jackson or Pat Kenny, no attempt to individualise at all,why are you constantly trying to say that Im indivdualising, when I have made it clear that it is not my intention ? Just because you keep repeating something doesnt make it correct.
All you really need to know is that Mr. O'Connor is the democratically elected Genral President of SIPTU.
However ,he is also in parnership with the government and therefore has a say in the running of this country.I dont recall any election to vote for this situation..
His background and education are not issues
.
Have you considered that it may be an issue for others?
I was a union rep for many years in a private company and attended many meetings in and out of office hours and still managed to do my job as did all the other reps I knew.
Someone has to pick up the slack though..I was that soldier..
Indeed Management were only too happy to have reps trained as it suited both parties to be able to deal swiftly and centrally with IR issues.
I cannot see under any circumstances how management would be in any position to refuse ...
