Hi,
I've been trying to download the latest garmin map update. The size of the file is about 3GB. How long should this take to download to a computer (3G Ram) using 1 M broadband?

Its taking me over 9 hours to download, is this right, or is there something wrong?

One last question, is there any way to check what speed broadband i'm actually receiving on my computer?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

1mb broadband will download 7.5mb a minute.

You are downloading 3072 meg.

So it should take 6.82 hours.

Of course nothing ever downloads a full speed. So 75% of optimal time sounds about right.

if your internet fails temporarily , you may have to start downloading again from scratch . so use a download manager an example of a free one being flashget.com

My internet connection failed temporarily while downloanding the Garmin maps but Garmin thoughtfully handled it quite elegantly. A link was put on my desktop saying "Resume Download". And it worked

Just as a matter of interest, I have a Garmin Sat-Nav and the maps need updating. Are you entitled to your first free updated maos for free? If not how much does it cost to update your maps?

Sorry I don't know. I paid for the lifetime updates option. When I tried I was only given the option of either paying for a once off update or a lifetime of updates, no-brainer when I checked the prices!

Last time I checked the prices, lifetime updates for a nuvi250 was €119.99 if purchased from the Garmin site.

However, if you buy a lifetime update gift card from Amazon (which you then use on the Garmin site), it's about €30 cheaper!
